​Summer Playground Program

The Township of Tiny Recreation Department offers a drop-in playground program throughout the summer months for children between the ages of 6 and 12, mornings at the Lafontaine Park and afternoons at the Toanche Park. Participation to the program is on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis and is limited to 20 children per session. Fun and exciting play opportunities include active and quiet games sports, songs, arts and crafts. The 2019 weekly themes are Digging for Dinosaurs; Buggy over Bugs; Marvelling Marvels; Roaming for Reptiles; Drip, Drip, Drop; It’s a Home Run and; Rock & Roll.

Registration & Payment

All participants are required to complete a Participant Information Form before joining the program.  Registration for the Summer Playground Program is available at the following locations:

  1. Program locations (Lafontaine and Toanche) for the duration of the program

  2. The Municipal Offices (130 Balm Beach Road West)

  3. Online (see link above)

Payment is required on location before participants can join the program. Single session payments can only be made with cash on site. See below for details regarding the VIPP Loyalty Program.

VIPP Loyalty Program

A ten-session pass (Very Important Playground Pass – VIPP) is available for $90. A VIPP can be purchased:

  1. On-site via cash or cheque

  2. The Municipal Offices (130 Balm Beach Road West) via cash, cheque or debit


All participants are expected to do their part by showing respect for all people and property while attending Township of Tiny recreation facilities. Coarse language, bullying, non-compliance, aggressive or inappropriate behaviour are not permitted at the program. These behaviours will be documented, reported and could result in the removal of a participant from the Summer Playground Program.

What to Bring

The Township is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal items; please leave all valuables at home. Please send the participant to the program with the following:

  • A refillable water bottle

  • Nut-free snacks

  • Running shoes

  • A hat & sunscreen (in addition, participants are encouraged to apply sunscreen prior to attending the program)

  • Breathable, athletic clothing

Safety & Security

The Summer Playground Program is supervised by screened and trained play leaders. Attendance is monitored and children are not permitted to leave during the program without written permission.  Staff to Participant supervision ratio is 1:10.

Pick-up & Drop-off

In order to ensure participant safety, parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to sign in and sign out participants each day via an initial next to the participant's name. Please ensure that all individuals permitted to pick up the participant are included on the Participant Information Form. Individuals who are not included on the authorization form will not be permitted to sign the participant out.


If a participant requires medication to be administered while at the program, a Medical Information Sheet must be completed. Medications must arrive in their original packaging and will be carried around by a Township Staff member. Epinephrine auto-injectors and puffers may be carrier around by the participant with expressed authorization.

A Township Staff member will administer the medication as directed on the Medical Information Sheet, complete a Medical Administration Log, and present the form for perusal and signature at sign-out.


Township Staff will treat any minor injuries (ie. bumps, bruises, scrapes) and complete a Participant Incident Report Form for the injury. The form will presented for perusal and signature at sign-out.

You will receive a phone call from Township Staff for any moderate to severe injuries and emergencies (ie. vomiting, head injuries). In the event we are unable to reach you, we will attempt to call the emergency contacts listed on the Participant Information Form. Please ensure the emergency contacts listed for your camper is accurate.


Our committed and caring leaders provide positive, wholesome experiences in which the accomplishments of each child are valued. Township Staff are invested in providing each participant with a positive and lasting experience.

All staff members are post-secondary or senior high school students, have a current certification in First Aid/CPR-C/AED, vulnerable sector police check, and are trained in both HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and Safeguard Drowning Prevention. In addition to ongoing training throughout the summer, each staff member participates in staff training prior to the start of the program. Training includes, but is not limited to, leadership skills, program planning, risk management, problem-solving, inclusion, communication, and behaviour management.

The Township of Tiny has high expectations of every staff member and this is reflected in the Township’s hiring policies. Potential staff members, including those previously employed at the Township of Tiny, must submit an application each year to join the staff team.
