Fireworks Use & By-law

• No person shall set off any consumer fireworks except between dusk and 11:00p.m, with the exception of New Years Eve when they can be set off between dusk and1:00am the following day.
• It is strictly prohibited to set off fireworks when there is a fire ban in effect.
• No person shall set off fireworks when the wind velocity is reported to be greater than 20 kilometers per hour.
• No person shall set off any consumer fireworks on or into any beach, park, parkette, trail, linear park, or other public place or any land owned by the Township without first having obtained permission from the municipality.
• No person shall set off any firecrackers.

​Display fireworks are high hazard fireworks generally used for community celebrations, classified as Type F.2 fireworks under the Explosives Act, R.S.C, 1985, c. E-17, a

Special Effect Pyrotechnics are classified as Type F.3 Under the Explosives Act, R.S.C., 1985, c. E-17 and are for professional use.

In order to set off display fireworks or special effect pyrotechnics, a permit to do so must be obtained. This permit is issued by the Chief Fire Official.

Only persons who hold a valid Fireworks Operator Certificate issued by Natural Resources Canada are eligible to apply for a Permit to display or Set Off Display Fireworks or Special Effects Pyrotechnic.

Application for a Permit shall be submitted no less than thirty (30) working days prior to the proposed event and shall include the information required by the Natural Resources Canada Display Fireworks Manual.

​The display and sale of consumer fireworks within the Township of Tiny is prohibited except on Victoria Day, Canada Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, or for a period of seven (7) calendar days immediately preceding these days.

No person is permitted to sell consumer fireworks within the Township of Tiny from a temporary sales establishment without approval of the Chief Fire Official.

No person shall sell, supply, or be in possession of consumer fireworks unless they are at least 18 years of age.

​The sale of consumer fireworks must conform to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) - Explosives Regulatory Division, "Consumer Fireworks Retail Package" and any pertinent NRCan Bulletin that may be issued from time to time. These documents are available through publications.gc.ca.

​Municipal Law Enforcement Officers enforce the Township By-laws. An Officer may at any time, enter onto land for the purpose of carrying out an inspection to determine whether or not the by-laws are being obeyed. When a complaint is received, it is investigated to determine if a by-law violation exists or not. The appropriate action will then be taken to resolve the matter.

A ticket or summons to appear in court could be issued with fines ranging between $300.00 to $100,000.00.
