As a member of Council, you act on behalf of residents, contribute to important decision-making, and support the effective and responsible operation of the Township of Tiny. Council members attend meetings, establish policy direction, and help ensure the municipality remains financially stable and well managed.

Candidate Information Session

Each Candidate Information Session, hosted in partnership with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will begin with a presentation from the Ministry and be followed by a Question-and-Answer period.  

New and seasoned candidates are encouraged to attend this informative session to learn about the responsibilities set out in the legislation for both candidates and third-party advertisers, and a general overview of the roles and responsibilities of Members of Council.

Session 1 - In Person:  Tuesday April 7, 2026, at 6pm Bourgeois Community Centre 527 Len Self Boulevard, Midland. Staff from the Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene and the Townships of Tay and Tiny will be present. 

Session 2 - Virtual: Tuesday April 21, 2026, at 6pm

 

Candidate Requirements

To become a candidate in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election, a person must show proof of their identity and qualifying address, including a photo and signature, their nomination paper and the appropriate filing fee ($200 for Office of Mayor, $100 for all other offices).

Candidates for Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors must provide at least 25 endorsements of nomination from eligible Tiny Township voters. The nomination paper and endorsement of nomination forms must have original signatures.

 

Who can run for Council?

To run for municipal Council, you must meet the following requirements: 

  • be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age 
  • be a resident or non-resident elector in the municipality where you are filing your nomination 
  • be eligible to hold office on the day your nomination is filed 

     

Candidate Nominations

Nominations open Friday, May 1, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. and close on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Nominations will not be accepted after the deadline.

In order to run for Council in the 2026 Municipal Election, you must complete the Nomination Paper (Form 1), obtain at least 25 signatures on the Endorsement of Nomination Form (Form 2), file your Nomination papers with the Clerk and pay the filing fee prior to the deadline. You cannot begin accepting donations or any campaign activities until your nomination papers have been officially filed.

All Candidates must book an appointment with the Clerk to file their Nomination Papers. Please email elections@tiny.ca to book an appointment.

Once a nomination is filed, candidate names and information will be posted on this website. 

Filing Fees

The filing fee for nomination to the position of Mayor is $200.00 and $100 for all other positions.

Payment must be made by cash, certified cheque, debit, or money order payable to the Township of Tiny.

Candidate Information Sessions

The Candidate Information Session is provided by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH), and provide attendees with valuable information about what it takes to serve and see if this opportunity is right for you.
