(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny remains in a Significant Weather Event declaration as per Regulation 239/02 of the Municipal Act

The Township of Tiny Municipal Emergency Control Group continues to monitor the ongoing evolving post-ice storm situation.

The township continues to be in contact with our partner agencies to receive updates about power restoration. 

As this significant event continues, be a good neighbour and check on those around you.

As a result of the significant freezing rain and rainfall, staff are working to deal with widespread flooding across the township.

Road and Trail Conditions

  • Road Closures in Effect: 
    • Concession 4 West between 201 Concession 4 West and Crossland Road
    • Wildman Side Road
  • Roads may be impacted by downed trees and power lines. If you cannot avoid travel, please drive with care.
  • Township staff continue to clear roads, respond to downed trees, and address road conditions. 
  • Tiny Rail Trail has multiple trees down blocking the trail in several locations. Residents are asked to avoid using the trails until the township can perform cleanup along the trail. 

Temporary Warming Centres 

The township has received reports that power has been restored to many areas of the township. The use of the warming centres yesterday (April 3, 2025) was low. The township continues to reassess the needs of our community based on the latest data available. Based on this information, the township warming centres will be open tonight (April 3, 2025) until 10:00 p.m., and the Wyebridge Community Centre will close on Friday, April 4, 2025 – the Township of Tiny Office location will remain open during the day on Friday.

    • Hours of Operation for Thursday, April 3, 2025: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. 
    • Hours of Operation for Friday, April 4, 2025: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Services: washrooms, water, power, access to township WIFI at this location
  • Wyebridge Community Centre, located at 8340 Highway 93
    • Hours of Operation for Thursday, April 3, 2025: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
    • Services: washrooms, water, power

Community Services

  • The Canadian Red Cross Friendly Calls program is open to anyone over the age of 18 who could benefit from greater connection, or may have limited social and family links, and can receive regular support over the phone for encouragement and the power of feeling heard. Please contact the Friendly Calls Central line at 1-833-979-9779. 

Hydro One

  • Power restoration may take several days due the scale of damage. For updates, follow Hydro One, or visit their outage map: https://d8bkcndcv6jca.cloudfront.net/ 
  • For safety, Hydro One urges everyone to stay at least 10 metres away from fallen power lines and report them immediately to 92887 (WATTS) or Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.

Fire and Emergency Services

  • Reminder to those running generators to operate them outside in a well-ventilated area only. Generators do not belong indoors as they omit carbon monoxide. 
  • Residents are advised to stay away from downed power lines, or those with trees on them. 
  • Burning is by a valid 2025 permit only. For more information about burning in Tiny, visit www.tiny.ca/firepermit

Township Office

  • The Township Office is open, but some services may be unavailable due to staffing shortages. Residents are encouraged to call ahead.
  • The tax due date of March 31, 2025, is extended to Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Penalties will not apply to any payments received by end of day Wednesday. 
  • The date to purchase dog tags has been extended to 12:00 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, April 9, 2025, and non-resident parking permits will open for purchase at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Programs and Meetings

  • All recreation programs will be cancelled until further notice.
  • Summer Day Camp registration is rescheduled to Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 12 p.m. (noon). 
  • The Spring/Summer Recreation and Activity Guide publishing date will be moved from Thursday, April 3, 2025, to Monday, April 7, 2025. 
  • Registration for Spring/Summer programs will be moved from 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, to Thursday, April 10, 2025. 
  • General Community Garden plot registration will open at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
  • The Regular Council and Committee of the Whole Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2025, has been cancelled and rescheduled to Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

County of Simcoe Waste Management

  • County of Simcoe waste collections will continue as usual where possible. Leaf and yard waste trucks will only be accepting bundled brush, not bagged leaf and yard waste, from April 14th to 25th to help with cleanup efforts. For information on waste collections: click here.

Significant Weather Event

On March 28, 2025, the Township of Tiny declared a Significant Weather Event due to forecasted freezing rain and rainfall amounts that posed a significant danger to roadway users and potential flooding.

During a Significant Weather Event, all roadways and sidewalks are considered to be in a “state of repair” and may be unsafe to use.

This declaration is permitted under the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways under Ontario Regulation 239/02.

Notice will be provided when the Declaration of Significant Weather Event has been removed based on the township’s ability to achieve the requirements under MMS.
