(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny’s Fire and Emergency Services Department, known as Tiny Fire, is modernizing our free Home Fire Safety Audit program for Tiny residents with an online portal and booking form.

Since 2015, this program includes an appointment with two firefighters that will attend your home or cottage, test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, check for safety hazards and offer solutions to remedy them. The department also sells carbon monoxide and smoke alarms at cost and can install them in most cases free of charge during your visit.

This online portal will teach residents more about what goes into providing this vital community service and how they can make small changes to better protect themselves and their home.

In addition to testing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, Tiny’s home fire audit team will assess a number of fire and life safety items during your appointment. The team will assess items such as electrical safety around outlets and water sources (e.g. bathrooms, kitchen sink), safe ways to enter and exit your home, whether your 911 address sign is visible from the road, dryer and dryer vent safety, and more.

Far too often during emergency responses, Tiny Fire firefighters find homes without adequate protection due to missing, expired, damaged, or non-functioning smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The Home Fire Safety Audit Program provides residents with an opportunity to identify and address these and other potential fire safety concerns before an emergency occurs.

“We really want our community to know that the Home Fire Safety Audit program is designed to help provide fire safety and prevention education without the fear of residents getting in trouble. Our firefighters are simply there to assist making your home a safer place for you and your family,” said Director of Fire and Emergency Services/Fire Chief, Dave Flewelling. “We look forward to seeing more of our residents who book an appointment with us.”

Residents interested in participating in this program are encouraged to fill out the new online booking form at www.tiny.ca/Fire, or call to book their appointment by calling 705-322-1161.
