(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny is celebrating AccessAbility Week with the “First Planting” in the enhanced Community Garden in Perkinsfield Park.

Members of Council were joined by Leslie Stroud, Constituency Office Assistant for the Hon. Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North, and members of the Township of Tiny’s Accessibility Advisory Committee for a celebratory planting event.

The accessibility enhancements were made possible thanks to a $31,076 grant the township received from the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility.

The project included the installation of:

  • 28 raised garden boxes for improved accessibility
  • A 10' x 16' gazebo with an accessible picnic table for shaded, inclusive seating
  • A park bench to enhance seating options
  • Age-friendly gardening tools
  • Improvements to the gate entrance and ramp for safe access

The accessibility enhancements help to remove barriers by providing improved access for seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and the community as a whole.

“Our government is proud to support projects like the Township of Tiny’s enhanced community garden, which help create welcoming, accessible spaces for people of all ages and abilities to come together and participate in local activities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

“National AccessAbility Week is an important opportunity to recognize the value of creating communities where everyone can participate fully and feel included. The enhanced community garden in the Township of Tiny, made possible through support from the province, will help provide a welcoming and accessible space for residents of all abilities to connect, grow, and enjoy the outdoors together. Investments like this help remove barriers, promote independence, and strengthen social inclusion for individuals living with accessibility challenges. I want to congratulate the Township of Tiny and all community partners involved in bringing this meaningful project to life,” said Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North and Minister for Emergency Preparedness and Response.

“We are very happy to be here today to celebrate the accessibility enhancements made to our community garden that helps us to continue to foster an age-friendly community,” said Mayor David Evans. “We would like to thank the Province of Ontario for their continued support in our vision to improve access to accessible and inclusive spaces that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can participate in.”
