(Tiny, Ontario) Get ready to kick off your summer with a month-long celebration of fun, fitness, and fabulous seniors! The Township of Tiny is thrilled to announce that June has been officially designated as Parks, Recreation & Seniors Month. It's time to embrace your inner adventurer, enjoy the great outdoors, and give a big shout-out to our amazing seniors who bring so much life and vibrancy to our community.
Throughout the month, we've lined up an exciting selection of activities and events that will have you jumping, skipping, and smiling from ear to ear. How does a round of fitness classes, pickleball, tennis, or disc golf sound? Best of all, they're all FREE drop-in programs! But wait, there's more! We're also hosting must-attend events like the Senior Symposium, Mayor's Charity Golf Tournament, and Pollinator Week. With countless leisure activities to choose from, June is sure to be a blast for everyone.
"We are delighted to dedicate the month of June to parks, recreation, and our esteemed older adults," said Mayor David Evans. "Parks and green spaces play a vital role in promoting physical and mental well-being for residents of all ages. In addition, our older population is a valued part of our community, and this month gives us a chance to honour and celebrate seniors’ contributions while providing them with enjoyable activities."
We all know that parks and recreation are the secrets to personal health, strong communities, and making sure nobody feels left out. So, gear up and get ready to hit the Tiny Trail, discover the Off-Leash Dog Park, or unwind at one of Tiny’s playgrounds or green spaces. The possibilities are endless!
According to the last Canadian Census (2021), over 45% of the population in the Township of Tiny is aged 55 and above. As such, June serves as a fitting time to pay tribute to the seniors who have played an integral role in building our community and positively influencing the lives of multiple generations. It is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the valuable contributions seniors have made to communities across Ontario.
