(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny’s Senior Advisory Committee is proud to host its annual Senior Symposium event on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Township of Tiny Community Centre (91 Concession Road 8 East, Tiny).
The Symposium aims to bring seniors and caregivers together to learn about services for older adults. The event will feature presentations from various local service providers. They include the County of Simcoe Age-in-Place Housing Grants and Community Paramedicine Program, Lakehead University’s Adult Learning Programs, and Tiny’s Fire and Emergency Services Emergency Preparedness. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the speakers to learn more about the resources available to them.
In addition to the presentations, various exhibitors will attend to offer information and additional resources for seniors. Groups include local seniors’ clubs, transportation services, Central East Ontario 211, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Fraud Prevention, and Chigamik Community Health Centre.
The theme for this year's event is "Celebrating Seniors." As such, the Senior of the Year Award ceremony will be a highlight of the event, recognizing an outstanding senior who, during or after the age of 65, contributed to the enrichment of the social, cultural, or civic life of the Township of Tiny.
"We are thrilled to be hosting our Senior Symposium event again this year to provide an update on the Local Aging Plan," said Lynn Moon, Chair of the Township of Tiny’s Senior Advisory Committee. "Our goal is to bring together seniors to celebrate the contributions of seniors in our community and to learn about the resources available to them."
"As a community, we are grateful for the contributions that our seniors have made to the Township of Tiny,” said Mayor David Evans. “It is important that we recognize and celebrate their achievements and the valuable role they continue to play in our community.”
The event includes lunch and opportunities to socialize. Admission is free, but registration is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
