(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant of $31,076 through the 2024-25 Inclusive Community Grants (ICG) Program from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility. This funding will support an accessibility enhancement project for the Community Garden located at Perkinsfield Park, aimed at making the space more inclusive and welcoming for all residents.
The project includes the installation of:
- 28 raised garden boxes for improved accessibility
- A 10' x 16' gazebo with an accessible picnic table for shaded, inclusive seating
- A park bench to enhance seating options
- Age-friendly gardening tools
- Improvements to the gate entrance and ramp for safe access
Work on the project is scheduled to be completed by November 30, 2025, with various aspects of the enhancements to be completed throughout the 2025 growing season. The enhancements will provide improved access for seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and all community members looking to enjoy the benefits of gardening in an inclusive environment.
“We are thrilled to receive this funding, which aligns with our ongoing commitment to being an age-friendly community by creating accessible and inclusive spaces for everyone,” said Mayor David Evans. “This project will make a meaningful difference for residents who want to participate in community gardening, socialize, and enjoy outdoor spaces without barriers.”
The Township of Tiny thanks the Province of Ontario for its continued support in fostering inclusive communities. Updates on the project’s progress will be shared with the community in the coming months.
“The Township of Tiny’s accessibility enhancements at Perkinsfield Park are a shining example of how local leadership can create inclusive, welcoming spaces for everyone. Through the Inclusive Community Grants Program, we’re honoured to support projects that help protect the well-being of seniors and people with disabilities by providing opportunities to stay active, connected, and engaged in their communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.
“Inclusive communities are the foundation of a thriving society, and I’m excited to see our community garden in Tiny take a significant step forward in becoming even more accessible to everyone. This generous grant from the Minister of Seniors and Accessibility will ensure that all residents, regardless of ability, can enjoy this wonderful public space. I look forward to seeing how these enhancements will make our community stronger, more inclusive, and more welcoming for all,” said Jill Dunlop, MPP, Simcoe North.
