The Township of Tiny is reminding residents and visitors that a 40km/hr designated limited speed area is in effect for Tiny Beaches Road North and South, and many of the connecting side streets as per the map below.

In April of 2023, the Township of Tiny passed By-law 23-033, being a by-law to regulate the rate of speed on roads within the township. Under the by-law, a 40km/hr designated speed limit area was introduced to Tiny Beaches Road North and South, and several of the connecting side streets. Under the Highway Traffic Act (“HTA”), default speed limits are prescribed for all roads that do not have a designated speed limit set. As noted in Report PWR-009-23, a recent amendment to the HTA allowed the township to implement the designated limited speed area. Rather than having to install speed limit signs on every single road, the area is marked by signs at every entrance to the designated area. All speed limit signs that were not 40km/hr have been removed. The report also mentions the safety concerns brought to the township’s attention by resident petitions, and that many of the streets are narrow and have a significant amount of pedestrian traffic (particularly in the summer months).

The Township of Tiny may still designate other roads within this area as having speed limits other than 40km/hr, but where no signs are present, the default speed limit becomes 40km/hr.
