Spring Flooding: When to Call the Fire Department

With the spring thaw and increased rainfall, localized flooding of yards, ditches, and basements can occur. The Township of Tiny Fire and Emergency Services Department does not provide water removal or property protection services for residential flooding.

 Do not Call the Fire Department for:

• Water in yards, driveways, or fields
• Basement seepage or slow water entry
• Pumping out basements or property
• Clearing drains, ditches, or culverts

Call 911 or the Fire Department Only if:

• There is an immediate threat to life or safety
• Water is affecting electrical systems creating a hazard
• There is structural damage or risk of collapse
• Someone is trapped or requires rescue

Safety Reminder: residents are urged to stay clear of fast-moving water or rising water. Even shallow, moving water can be dangerous. Keep children and pets away from flooded areas, ditches, and culverts, and never attempt to walk or drive through moving water.

For non-emergency flooding concerns, residents are encouraged to:

• Use sump pumps 
• Contact a licensed contractor or restoration company
• Monitor municipal updates and weather alerts
