(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny would like to advise residents that a new online interactive map has been developed, which shows all licensed Short-Term Rental Accommodation properties within the community.
To view the online map, or to obtain additional information about Short-Term Rental Accommodation in the Township visit: www.tiny.ca/str.
The map provides specific details regarding each Short-Term Rental Accommodation property that has applied for a Short-Term Rental Accommodation Licence. In addition, the map includes the address, status of the Licence, and contact information for the responsible person. Staff received a legal opinion advising that addresses, where Short-Term Accommodation operate, are not considered personal information and may be published.
Several municipalities in Ontario make public a map or list of licenced Short-Term Rental Accommodations. Based on the Township’s review of neighbouring municipalities, like the Town of The Blue Mountains, the Township of Ramara, and Prince Edward County, there have been no reported threats, harassment, or incidences toward Short-Term Rental Accommodation licence holders as a result of the map or list.
This new tool will allow residents to locate all Short-Term Rental Accommodations that are operating throughout the community. The map is intended to help the public understand where Short-Term Rental Accommodations operate in their neighbourhood. Members of the public can confirm whether or not a Short-Term Rental Accommodation is licensed and contact the Responsible Person should there be an emergency or concern.
The Township anticipates that the map will reduce the number of calls the Municipal Law Enforcement Department receives asking if a property owner has a licence or making a complaint unrelated to the By-laws. Staff will then have more time to conduct inspections, administrate the licensing program and enforce compliance where owners are operating without a licence.
