(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny has opened an Emergency Preparedness Week contest to help draw attention to being prepared for an emergency. Emergency Preparedness Week is a national awareness initiative that helps to ensure you and your family are equipped to protect yourself during an emergency. This year, Emergency Preparedness Week is May 3 to 9, 2026, and the theme is “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.”

The Emergency Preparedness Week contest is open to Township of Tiny residents. The contest questionnaire consists of a few short questions to encourage the community to think about what it means to be prepared for an emergency and what supplies they should have. Entries will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2026, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2026. The contest is open to all ages. Participants will be entered into a draw to win one of three prizes to help them build their own emergency preparedness kit:

  • First prize includes a 72-hour food supply kit, emergency radio, and a battery-operated flashlight.
  • Second prize includes a 72-hour food supply kit and a battery-operated flashlight.
  • Third prize includes a battery-operated flashlight.

“Emergency Preparedness Week reminds all of us to ensure we are well-equipped for a potential emergency. We are launching a contest to encourage the Tiny community to gather supplies, learn how they can stay informed, and think about the needs of their whole family when considering emergency planning,” said Mayor David Evans. “I would encourage all of our residents to participate in this contest and to visit our emergency preparedness information portal on our website to learn more about emergency preparedness.”

The emergency preparedness information portal is an online tool that includes helpful information about how to prepare for an emergency. Some of the topics include what to pack in an emergency kit, what the hazards are in the Tiny area and how to prepare for them, how to stay informed during an emergency, and how to create an emergency escape plan. There are also helpful downloadable checklists that you can check off as you gather items for your emergency kit for your family and pets.
